From Halifax to Vancouver - Sears Fundraiser Misses Tremendous Opportunity

The Sears National Kids Cancer Ride has sadly missed a tremendous opportunity in deciding to exclude New Brunswick, Newfoundland, Labrador and the Territories. Aside from the fact that the Run is called a "National" one, and aside from the fact that they call it a "Coast to Coast" Ride, this fund raiser has missed a great opportunity to experience the tremendous giving heart of the Newfoundlander and Labradorian in their fund raising event.

Because it is a truly noble cause it is hard to be critical. We wish them the best. But to their Promotions people: It's a big country folks, expand your boundaries you may be pleased with the result.

I think we need to concentrate on what is being done and not comment on what is not being included. I know it was not political or culturally excluded from the ride. It is merely impossible to ask people with families and full time careers to give more time to a fundraiser. Our country is huge and they are doing the best they can to "ride coast to coast". Let's support the riders and encourage them instead of feeling left out. Perhaps next year 'the rock' could have it's own regional ride in concurrance with the coast to coast. It is a spectacular area and should definitely be included but the reality is: Canada is huge and unfortunately geography may have gotten in the way of the riders truly going coast to coast. But too few people do nothing and the fact that this organization is completing this task is just enough to raise our hats to. As a wife of one of the riders, I know my husband would have loved to see all of Canada and cover all the miles. We do what we can and should applaud the spirit and effort instead of making a negative comment. Sometimes 'good enough' is really good enough

Craftygirl. Quite simply Newfoundland and Labrador could have easily been included, similar fundraisers have used exercise bikes, with Sears sponsoring they could have set these up in the stores. Also quite simply the phrase "coast to coast" is not appropriate for use as a tagline.

This was not a problem of logistics, it is one of indifference.

Sincere congratulations to your husband for taking on this challenge, in no way would I take away from his tremendous selflessness in participating in the ride. My criticism is directed at the marketing of the event only.

That said I hope the event was successful and I hope NL can play a role in the future.

What about the Port aux Basques to St. John's Run the Rock fundraiser, which omits Labrador?
